If you read this today and you have a Grandmother in your life will you please remember to hug her. If she is living far away call her and tell her you love her. I was fortunate to marry in to an amazing family. At the matriarchal helm of the family is this dear lady Merida Ruble.
Grandma Merida is just plain out adorable! In her eighties she will still a volunteer at the senior center and was awarded “volunteer of the year”. She drove from Santa Monica to Culver city several days a week to volunteer. She often complained about the “old people” that couldn’t figure out how to fill out the forms correctly. She has many wonderful friends at the Culver City, CA senior center.
Grandma is everything that a anyone would want from a Grandma. For me having grown up with just a few Grandparents in my life and having lost all of my Grandparents many years ago Grandma Merida was a gift. She was truly my friend, Grandma and someone that I loved very very much.
Grandma went to sleep for the last time a few weeks ago. The hat in this image tells part of how “cute” she was. She wore this hat every time she left the house.
Some parting advise that was captured in a video taped interview. ” Be nice to everyone, you don’t know what type of day they are havin.”. ” GIve older people a hug or just talk to them they can be very lonely”. Thank you Grandma for being in my life. Thank you for touching my heart and teaching me.
To the sweet lady that I had a wonderful conversation in the cookie isle about her upcoming visit with her Grandchildren and Great-grand children- thank you for the sweet hug. I know that I had Grandma’s words in my head when I struck up the conversation with you . I was truly the one that was blessed that day. I was missing my friend and Grandma. So thank you for your kindness.
ma Merida.
